Beautiful sound! I recently got a red one, not in as good as a condition as yours, and loving it. I've been wondering about the neck pickup - it is quite dark sounding even with the tone at max - almost no brightness to it (while the bridge PU is very very very bright). I'm wondering if it was a characteristic of these instruments. How would the neck pickup on yorus compare to say, a neck pickup on a strat?

As best I can tell and have been told the only way the pickups can be taken apart is the shiny metal frame has to be pulled straight up through the plastic body. Screws that fasten the pickup to the guitar can then be accessed.. i will be making a tool to get these pickups apart. Hopefully with little effort and no damage.

Did you have to do any special modifications below each pickup to get them to fit with enough space below the strings? I have two pair of Rickenbacker-type pickups that I am planning on using to replace the original four, missing from my guitar, but the one at the neck sits a few millimeters too high. Luckily, the body is about 6-7mm thick, so I can rout out about 2-3mm and set at least the topmost neck pickup in. Your thoughts?

NICE!!! I am Frankensteining an Orfeus 12 string with no neck into a 6 string guitar. I forgot about the dog ear P90s! I think I have a pair in a box somewhere :) If I am seeing correctly, you cut the treble side neck pocket edge, yes? So that you can reach the high treble side strings when soloing, yes? I was thinking of doing something similar, but your version looks so much better. Any photos or videos of you doing this rebuild? Thanks!!!

I just got in my 12 string body, from Moldova. It had no neck, but a First Act electric guitar 222 model neck fits pretty much damn near perfect. It has all the pots, jack, and wiring, but mine came with no pickups :( But, it does have the pickup plates, so I have some pickups to try to fit into the plates. Minor modifications, but it will come back to life as a 6-string :) I have some Rickenbacker pickups I was hoping to use, but they are too tall to fit below the strings at the neck. The bridge, maybe. Oh well. Nice job!!!

I have a Special with a damper that came yesterday. Foam that may be original that contacts the strings is about 6 mm thick. I lost a spring around the center pin that is adjustable through unthreaded hole in center of bridge part that contains the saddles. Spring was on the bottom of the damper plate, it probably belonged on the top.

Rocking Bridge I have read two things. Use 11 gauge string set. Do not lubricate the saddles of rocking bridge, the strings must not slip. An idea occurs to me, that may not be completely achievable. First all strings need to be in good tune with bridge straight. Try to get average of saddle faces close to center of pivot point by moving bridge and then adjusting saddles to previous length. Saddles probably move 1 mm per turn.

Jolana Special - switches and dials. Soviet Guitars web page has a post showing the circuitry, and it's puzzling. There isn't a way to have all three pickups work at the same time, there is a way to have all 3 pickups disconnected, how useful is that. I will have one of these in about a month. The rocking bridge for the vibrato is steam punk elaborate too. N - pickup close to neck M - middle pickup B - pickup near bridge Calling switches 1 2 3 4 with 1 closest to neck Switch 1 is M or N and B Switch 2 is N if switch 1 is set on N and B Switch 3 is B if switch 1 is set on N and B If Switch 1 is set M then switch 2 does nothing if switch 1 is set M then switch 3 does nothing. Switch 4 is a low pass filter (big capacitor that switch 4 bypasses) for the bridge pickup. The upper and outer knobs loosely relate to locations of pickups, they may be "volumes". Lowest & most left (inner,) dial is tone control only for M , middle pickup. THAT IS ORIGINAL CONFIGURATION There are little capacitors everywhere. Download a free Sound Spectrum phone app to see what frequencies are attenuated and compare them to standard A4=440 Hz. Keyboard you can find online that shows frequency of each key.
